Judge Gorsuch is Big League
In May, 2016, I wrote an article that is posted on this Web Page entitled: “No Justice for ‘We the People.’” I explained how the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland by President Obama was sent to, and received by, the Senate on March 16, 2016. That was one year ago. The question was, should a sitting president in the last year of his elected term, be allowed to nominate a candidate for the Supreme Court?
President Obama had every right to nominate a Supreme Court Justice. That was his responsibility. It was also the responsibility of the Senate to advise and consent. In other words, approve the nomination. But it never happened. Judge Merrick Garland never received hearing. No justice for the nominated Associate Justice.
Trump Hits a Home Run
How many times have we heard the President use the term “Big League?” More than the baseball announcers do in a full season, you say. Yeah, it loses its meaning, doesn’t it? But this time he got it right. Judge Neil Gorsuch is “Big League.”
Merrick Garland was a qualified nominee – a good choice. Much better than the “Low A” Minor League nominees Sonia Sotomayor, nominated May 26, 2009 and sworn in 3 months later on August 8, 2009 and Elena Kagan, nominated on May 10, 2010 and sworn in less than 3 months on August 7, 2010.
The Democrats wanted their nominee right now. They had a lot riding on that nomination as it would change the balance of power in the Supreme Court which is now divided between “Pedal to the Metal Activist Justices” and “Original Constitutionalist Justices.”
Now, President Trump and the Republicans want the same thing. Do you see a pattern here? I do. It all boils down to politics and ideology. Politics for the Insider Powerbrokers and ideology for the programmed masses.
Will “We the People” get Justice in 2017?
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, KY Rep., blocked President Obama nominee for the vacancy left by Justice Scalia. Now Senator Mitch is going to have to make a decision. If he can’t sway 8 Democrats to vote with the Republican majority of 52, he must invoke the Democrats “Nuclear Option.” It’s still all about politics, isn’t it? Voting done strictly along “Party Lines.”
Sotomayor was confirmed by the full Senate by a vote of 68–31 after she stated: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life." Sotomayor had made similar remarks in other speeches between 1994 and 2003. That sounds racist, sexist and bigoted to me but she was confirmed because she was a Democrat and the Democrats were in power.
When Kagan's name was mentioned as a replacement for Justice Stevens, the New York Times noted that she "has supported assertions of executive power." This view of vast executive power caused many to fear that she would reverse the majority in favor of protecting civil liberties on the Supreme Court were she to replace Stevens. That doesn’t sound constitutional to me but she was confirmed 63-67 because she was a Democrat and the Democrats were in power.

More Ivy Leaguers than Big Leaguers
Neil Gorsuch is the most qualified nominee since Robert Bork in 1987. Bork, a Marine, who received his degree from the University of Chicago would have been an outstanding Justice. Bork was opposed by the ACLU along with Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden and others. His nomination was denied 42-58. Thus, the term “Borked.”
While Neil Gorsuch is a Columbia and Harvard guy, he will still receive stiff opposition from guess who, the Democrats. And why, you ask? Because he is a Republican nominee. It isn’t about who is best qualified, it is about the political party the nominee belongs to.
In 20/20: A Clear Vision for America, I present a solid case for Term Limits. I do not believe Supreme Court Justices are accountable in a way that is most in line with the spirit of checks and balances. The justices have become activists and every decision they make is predicted as they rule along strict ideological lines.
The 20/20 Vision increases the total number of justices to fifteen (15) Supreme Court Justices, one of whom will be the Chief Justice. This number correlates with a proposed increase to 15 federal circuit courts. The purpose of this increase is to ensure that caseload backlogs are kept current to dispense fair and swift justice.
The 20/20 Vision appoints justices to serve a fifteen-year term instead of the current lifetime term. The justices currently on the Supreme Court will be given terms to enable the President to nominate one new justice each year to replace the justice that has reached their respective term limit. Newly appointed justices must be between the ages of 50 and 65, in order that no justice serves past the age of 80. This rotates the court and keeps the court fresh and impartial and provides opportunity for younger Justices to serve.
Can voters accept term limits?” Yes! Unfortunately, we know the politicians cannot!

Finally, an author who brings you solutions, instead of problems.
Americans have lost faith in their overreaching federal government. “We the People” don’t need to be overregulated or have their taxes misspent. Americans are victims of a crumbling economy, high prices and stagnant wages. They view government as bloated and politicians as corrupt.
They do not trust the leadership at any level. They see politicians of both parties as self-centered narcissists whose only objective is re-election. The author is like you, with one principal difference and 20 reasons for optimism. His “Vision” of America is “clear.” It is a vision of the Constitution and America the way it could be, the way it should be. The author’s eyesight is twenty-twenty.
