Who are You?

Do You Add Value to America?

Your humble correspondent is often asked to write articles for newspaper and magazines, print and online, from time to time. I wrote an article for the Florida Times-Union for a holiday edition. It was an edited selection from 20/20: A Clear Vision for America to explain how Americans can and must find common ground and to learn how to live and work together as one.

I was limited to 350 words so I had to cut some content. Following is a more complete excerpt edited from Chapter 3 of the book.

The 20/20 Vision Principles

The United States has a population of approximately 320 million residents. An estimated 30 to 40 million foreign nationals reside in the country. Every one of these more than 320 million people play a role in the future of the United States. They play these roles in a constant and perpetual manner. Every one of these 320 million plus people must add value to their country for the country to continually succeed and be prosperous. When more of these 320 million plus people adds value to the country, the country becomes more successful.

The 20/20 Vision provides an environment of success for all 320 million plus people to add value, especially for those who are not yet doing so.

All People have Equal Value

Their roles, although varied, distinct and different, are equally important roles. People can be positive, neutral or negative forces on the success of the republic. They are in three groups. They are people whom:

1. Contribute to the success of the nation in many diverse ways and add value. These people carry the entire burden of the nation. These are citizens who: Have jobs where they make things, service things, provide services, care for people, protect people and/or perform value added duties or undertakings. Are attending schools, academies or other learning or training facilities to become productive citizens who will add value to the future success of the USA.

Some are young and will become future students who will add value to the future success of the USA. Currently they add joy and comfort to all. Are senior citizens who added value in the past and who are now retired and still adding value with their wisdom, experience and good will. Are unable to produce, or serve, through no fault of their own but still bring joy, wonder and enlightenment to all.

2. Merely exist. They do no harm, but add no value. They are a burden on the people who add value. They do not move the nation forward. They typically have no use for society and have no interest to fit in and help others.

3. Take from others, harm others, consume and may be destructive. They subtract value from society and the economy. They place a continual burden on the people who add value. They are high maintenance people who drag people who add value down. They do not work. They may be criminals who often harm other citizens and/or their property.

Organizations have more than one member.

Each member, no matter the number, has an important role to play in the success, or failure, of the organization. Contributing members add value and ensure prosperity and future well-being. An unsuccessful organization fails and ceases to exist. Therefore, all members must contribute and add value to the organization for it to thrive, succeed and sustain itself. Each entity, organization or country must have continuity. There cannot be gaps in which performance starts and stops. There cannot be years of revenue loss, reckless spending, inadequate training and poor planning.

Example: A typical organization, or company, has an organization chart. All members, or staff/employees, are included on that chart. They occupy various levels and play various roles to make up the whole. There are officers, directors, managers, supervisors, members, associates and/or employees at many levels and skills who perform the duties, tasks and activities required for the entity to function. Each member is equally important, and must perform ably, or the entity does not need them on the roster. The entity cannot function well unless all are engaged in effective and productive performance of their duties. The entity cannot survive and fulfill its mission unless each member does their part and plays their role. Those who do not perform drag the organization down and destroy it in one way or manner.

The analogy: The United States of America is a very large organization with many member citizens. For the USA to thrive and perpetuate itself, all citizens must be contributing members. Each citizen must play a positive role. Presently, many people do not play a positive role.

The USA is currently on a backward slide. We must reverse this trend for our children and grandchildren to have meaningful futures. Our children have great potential – we must provide them with a great country to fulfill their great potential.

Finally, an author who brings you solutions, instead of problems.

Americans have lost faith in their overreaching federal government. “We the People” don’t need to be overregulated or have their taxes misspent. Americans are victims of a crumbling economy, high prices and stagnant wages. They view government as bloated and politicians as corrupt.

They do not trust the leadership at any level. They see politicians of both parties as self-centered narcissists whose only objective is re-election. The author is like you, with one principal difference and 20 reasons for optimism. His “Vision” of America is “clear.” It is a vision of the Constitution and America the way it could be, the way it should be. The author’s eyesight is twenty-twenty.
