Saluting Our Flag

With the many problems the world is facing, living in the United States of America is certainly a blessing and certainly not the most difficult or harsh human existence. As a young man, I had the opportunity to receive structure and discipline through school and a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps.

Those who do not, miss the opportunity to appreciate what we have. I took pride in learning the Marine Corps salute and how to execute it properly. I never would have dreamed of not standing at perfect attention and properly saluting in the presence of the flag of our republic. It was all part of the oath I took as an officer.

Now people live in the “new normal” where no one takes an oath. No one pledges their word. After all we don’t want to offend anyone. Therefore, it is so much easier to offend what our country stands for and to offend those who have given us liberty and freedom. After all, we know they are too disciplined to strike back.

On Saturday, December 10, 2016 a football game was play in Baltimore between the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy, also known as the annual Army-Navy Game. No one took the knee of shame. Instead they stood at attention and sang a powerful rendition of the National Anthem.

A Stark Contrast

I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick said, via NFL.com. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Initially, Kaepernick was alone in his protest. And unnoticed. His protest didn’t gain national attention until the third preseason game when he sat during the National Anthem. Since then, he’s continued this protest while being joined by several other NFL players, other professional, college and high school athletes.

"For me, it was something that I couldn't see another 'hashtag Sandra Bland, hashtag Tamir Rice, hashtag Walter Scott, hashtag Eric Garner,' the list goes on and on and on," Kaepernick said. "At what point do we do something about it? At what point do we take a stand and as a people say this isn't right? You have a badge, yes. You're supposed to be protecting us, not murdering us, and that's what the issue really is and we need to change that."

Misinformed and/or Uninformed?

The entire mainstream media, joined by the sports media pundits all praised Kaepernick for standing up for his First Amendment rights. Really? Yes, he has the right. But, and there is always but, he has the responsibility to know the truth and the facts. And, the media sports commentators have a similar obligation.

This legitimizes the protests by pretending that there is some merit to Black Lives Matter. We have lost our national identity, having traded it in for an endless wave of “let’s try this!” episodes that leave us empty, angry, and desperate for something real.

It ain’t true. Statistics don’t bear this out. The QB doesn’t know what he is talking about. He bought into the “Black Lives Matter” lie. Kaepernick, born in 1987, reportedly started dating radio personality and television host Nessa, born in 1981, in July 2015[69] and officially went public about their relationship in February 2016.

Kaepernick was baptized in the Methodist churchhe was confirmed Lutheran, and attended a Baptist church during his college years. Kaepernick spoke about his faith saying, "My faith is the basis from where my game comes from. I've been very blessed to have the talent to play the game that I do and be successful at it. I think God guides me through every day and helps me take the right steps and has helped me to get to where I’m at. When I step on the field, I always say a prayer, say I am thankful to be able to wake up that morning and go out there and try to glorify the Lord with what I do on the field. I think if you go out and try to do that, no matter what you do on the field, you can be happy about what you did."

Kaepernick has multiple tattoos. On his right arm is a scroll with the Bible Psalm 18:39 written on it. Tattooed under the scroll are praying hands with the phrase "To God The Glory." To the left of both the scroll and praying hands is the word "Faith" written vertically. His left arm features a Christian cross with the words "Heaven Sent" on it referring to Jesus. Written above and below the cross is the phrase "God Will Guide Me". Written to the left and right of the cross is the Bible Psalm 27:3. His chest features the phrase "Against All Odds" and artwork around it that represents "inner strength, spiritual growth, and humility".

His back features a mural of angels against demons.

Confused or Brainwashed? Stephen A. Smith had this to say. "I’m surprised ESPN didn’t suspend him again."

“As far as I’m concerned, Colin Kaepernick is absolutely irrelevant. I don’t want to see him again, I don’t want hear from him again, I don’t want to hear a [darn] word about anything he has to say about our nation … He comes across as a flaming hypocrite. …

After all this noise that you made, even though you didn’t intended to do so, by offending our military service men and women, and pointing out about how you wanted to bring attention to racial injustices and beyond in this country, to turn around and not even take your behind to the polls to vote for a particular candidate, it is shameful! Absolutely shameful!”

Ret. Marine Col. Jeffery Powers Wrote the Following:

Commissioner,

I’ve been a season pass holder at Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl and Giants Stadium.

I missed the ’90-’91 season because I was with a battalion of Marines in Desert Storm. 14 of my wonderful Marines returned home with the American Flag draped across their lifeless bodies. My last conversation with one of them, Sgt Garrett Mongrella, was about how our Giants were going to the Super Bowl. He never got to see it.

Many friends, Marines, and Special Forces Soldiers who worked with or for me through the years returned home with the American Flag draped over their coffins.

Now I watch multi-millionaire athletes who never did anything in their lives but play a game, disrespect what brave Americans fought and died for. They are essentially spitting in the faces and on the graves of real men, men who have actually done something for this country beside playing with a ball and believing they’re something special! They’re not! My Marines and Soldiers were!

You are complicit in this! You’ll fine players for large and small infractions but you lack the moral courage and respect for our nation and the fallen to put an immediate stop to this. Yes, I know, it’s their 1st Amendment right to behave in such a despicable manner.

What would happen if they came out and disrespected you or the refs publicly?

I observed a player getting a personal foul for twerking in the end zone after scoring. I guess that’s much worse than disrespecting the flag and our National Anthem. Hmmmmm, isn’t it his 1st Amendment right to express himself like an idiot in the end zone?

Why is taunting not allowed yet taunting America is OK? You fine players for wearing 9-11 commemorative shoes yet you allow scum on the sidelines to sit, kneel or pump their pathetic fist in the air. They are so deprived with their multi-million dollar contracts for playing a freaking game!

You condone it all by your refusal to act. You’re just as bad and disgusting as they are. I hope Americans boycott any sponsor who supports that rabble you call the NFL. I hope they turn off the TV when any team that allowed this disrespect to occur, without consequence, on the sidelines. I applaud those who have not.

Legends and heroes do NOT wear shoulder pads. They wear body armor and carry rifles.

They make minimum wage and spend months and years away from their families. They don’t do it for an hour on Sunday. They do it 24/7 often with lead, not footballs, coming in their direction. They watch their brothers carted off in pieces not on a gurney to get their knee iced. They don’t even have ice! Many don’t have legs or arms.

Some wear blue and risk their lives daily on the streets of America. They wear fire helmets and go upstairs into the fire rather than down to safety. On 9-11, hundreds vanished. They are the heroes.

I hope that your high paid protesting pretty boys and you look in that mirror when you shave tomorrow and see what you really are, legends in your own minds. You need to hit the road and take those worms with you!

Time to change the channel.

Bill-Buckler-Bio-01-1

Finally, an author who brings you solutions, instead of problems.

Americans have lost faith in their overreaching federal government. “We the People” don’t need to be overregulated or have their taxes misspent. Americans are victims of a crumbling economy, high prices and stagnant wages. They view government as bloated and politicians as corrupt.

They do not trust the leadership at any level. They see politicians of both parties as self-centered narcissists whose only objective is re-election. The author is like you, with one principal difference and 20 reasons for optimism. His “Vision” of America is “clear.” It is a vision of the Constitution and America the way it could be, the way it should be. The author’s eyesight is twenty-twenty.
