TLBTV: The American Vision – Seven Crusades Myths
TLBTV: The American Vision – Seven Crusades Myths
By TLB Contributing Author & TLBTV Show Host: Bill Muckler
Today on The American Vision I present what most would consider a different type of topic, but it all (as you will see) ties together in a historical fashion. My special guest, and an outstanding source of information, is Dr. Andrew Holt. Dr. Holt is a Professor of History at Florida State College in Jacksonville Florida. Dr. Holt also teaches graduate history courses online for Norwich University-The Military College of Vermont. The truth of the Crusades are discussed in this show.
Seven Myths of the Crusades’ rebuttal of the persistent and multifarious misconceptions associated with topics including the First Crusade, anti-Judaism and the Crusades, the crusader states, the Children’s Crusade, the Templars and past and present Islamic-Christian relations proves, once and for all, that real history is far more fascinating than conspiracy theories, pseudo-history and myth-mongering.
This book is a powerful witness to the dangers of the misappropriation and misinterpretation of the past and the false parallels so often drawn between the crusades and later historical events ranging from nineteenth-century colonialism to the protest movements of the 1960s, to the events of 9/11. This volume’s authors have venerable track records in teaching and researching the crusading movement, and anyone curious about the crusades would do well to start here.
Dr. Holt is co-editor (with James Muldoon) of Competing Voices from the Crusades (Greenwood, 2008), Seven Myths of the Crusades with Alfred J. Andrea (Hackett, 2015), and Great Events in Religion: An Encyclopedia of Pivotal Events in Religious History (3 Vols.) co-edited with Florin Curta (ABC-Clio, 2016). Currently, he is editing a two-volume encyclopedia on the crusades under contract with Greenwood Press. He is also the editor of the crusades section of the Oxford Bibliographies Online (offered by Oxford University Press) and also serves as a series editor for Hackett Publishing’s Seven Myths Historical Series. His work has been cited in such publications as The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Times Higher Education, and others.
Among his teaching awards are the John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award (March 2016) as well as an Outstanding Faculty Award (2015-2016) and a Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching (May 2013).
Dr. Holt holds a doctorate in history from the University of Florida and his primary areas of study/interest include the crusades, ecclesiastical history, medieval Islamic history, gender history, and the modern Middle East. He has provided commentary and analysis on current events in the Middle East on dozens of occasions for local television and radio news programs in N. Florida and has recently served as a co-moderator in two debates for Florida’s 4th Congressional District. He is also a former U.S. Marine and the proud father of three beautiful children. Together with his family, he studies martial arts and is a First Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo (ATA) and is currently studying Krav Maga.

Finally, an author who brings you solutions, instead of problems.
Americans have lost faith in their overreaching federal government. “We the People” don’t need to be overregulated or have their taxes misspent. Americans are victims of a crumbling economy, high prices and stagnant wages. They view government as bloated and politicians as corrupt.
They do not trust the leadership at any level. They see politicians of both parties as self-centered narcissists whose only objective is re-election. The author is like you, with one principal difference and 20 reasons for optimism. His “Vision” of America is “clear.” It is a vision of the Constitution and America the way it could be, the way it should be. The author’s eyesight is twenty-twenty.
